IRS Updates W-4
Effective January 1, 2020, all new employees will have to complete the newest version of the federal W-4 tax withholding form. Current employees are not required to furnish this form if they have a valid W-4 on file with their current employer(s).
Some current employees may want to consider completing the updated form if they meet the following criteria: have multiple jobs, have a working spouse and plan to file taxes jointly, have child or other tax credits, or have high incomes and complex tax returns.
The changes were made to simplify the form and remove complicated tax withholding calculations, similar to the updated Missouri W-4, which was released December of 2018.
